Want Something Less Depressing (Than Dead Puppies)?

According to a survey done by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, 19.7% of my graduating class (of 2009) is currently employed. 51% of the class of 2008 is employed, which means that I’m in competition with 49% of last year’s graduates, who have had an extra year to grow increasingly desperate.

Yale University School of Management professor Lisa Kahn said recent college graduates will suffer the long-term effects of this recession much more than their counterparts who graduated in boom times.

Departing seniors are “suffering from the recession like everyone else is, but the effects are going to stay with (them) for much longer,” Kahn said.
